SBF 120:8 Rules for automatic water sprinkler systems presents requirements for design, installation and maintenance of water sprinkler systems and shall be applied together with the standard SS-EN 12845.

This edition, SBF 120:8, is prepared by the Swedish Fire Protection Association in cooperation with Insurance Sweden, the Swedish Association of Plumbing and HVAC Contractors, Besiktning.org, Sprinklerfrämjandet and Sveriges Brandkonsultförening.

These rules apply as of 1 April 2016. The previous edition is withdrawn as of 31 December 2016.

Rules for water sprinkler systems have been issued since the 1920s, first by the insurance industry in Sweden and since 2001 by the Swedish Fire Protection Association. In 2003, CEN published the first edition of the European standard for water sprinkler systems and the Swedish Fire Protection Association then adapted ist rules to the standard. The rules refer to, and shall be read together with the standard SS-EN 12845.

The rules specify properties and design that are considered to be important for function and reliability. The intention of the guidelines and rules is to set quality and safety levels that can be generally applied by the parties concerned. Application is voluntary, however.
